OM3 Fibre Optic Links for ACU
July 2009: External OM3 Fibre Optic Links completed for the Australian Catholic University
Elam has completed the installation of OM3 Fibre Links to three other Australian Catholic University buildings in North Sydney.
The Campus at 40 Edward Street is growing at a rapid rate and more space was needed in nearby buildings. Laser Link (free space Optics) were proving problematic so I.T. called on Elam to provide a solution.
Civil Work was undertaken using a combination of trenching and underboring. 63mm Communications conduits and P5 Pits were installed. The OM3 Multimode Fibre Optic cabling, made by Prysmian, emanates from the Campus. A mid-cable splice has been created to make best use of the available Fibre cores, without filling duct space. All Fibre cables have been terminated using SC, OM3 fusion Spliced Pigtails.
“We decided on OM3 Multimode Fibre cable for this section of the University because it offers superior bandwidth for lengths 100 – 300 metres and it is capable of handling future 10G backbone applications” says Lyn Evans, managing Director of Elam. “We are very happy with the outcome and the client will benefit from this one cable system for up to 20 years”
